The Florida Project, trailer and quick update

Tonight I'm thrilled to see Sean Baker's "Tangerine" follow up, "The Florida Project." Oscarwatchers will have already seen this trailer, but for those of you who have either just discovered Awards Wiz or who maybe be dipping their toes slowly into Oscar season, check it out!

As I mentioned in my Oscar preview piece, I had been struggling to get into the Oscar zone. I think that may have passed. Last year I was beyond excited to see both "La La Land" and "Moonlight" (eventually I will move on from these two, I promise!), and this year I have "Call Me By Your Name" and "The Florida Project," not to mention the upcoming Paul Thomas Anderson film, "Phantom Thread," although, sometimes Daniel Day Lewis can be a bit much for me. I know...Oscar blasphemy.

In addition to "The Florida Project" I'm still trucking along watching submissions for the Oxford Film Festival. Hoping to make some major headway this afternoon in anticipation for the November 15th submission deadline.

Tomorrow I will watch "Blade Runner 2049" and have a stronger sense of whether or not Deakins might finally win the Oscar. I have to say, it is a bit less certain now that the box office receipts have come in and buzz has simmered. I expected a "Mad Max" reception, and it did not happen.

Speaking of diminished buzz. It seems that I might have missed my window for "Battle of the Sexes" as well. Having already left Oxford (not a good sign!) I can't seem to will myself to make the additional effort to see the film out of town. Looks like it will be out to rent in December. Is Emma Stone still in the game for this anyway? We shall see.

27 Days of Oscar, Day 17: Fighting the queer fight and Production Design

Reading that headline makes me laugh a bit. "Fighting the queer fight and Production Design." Not quite the perfect combination...
