Thank you from Awards Wiz
As per usual, I have lots of people to thank for helping make this year’s Oscar season happen for me. First of all, I wouldn’t have been able to see all 65 nominated films without the help of the studios and PR folks who sent me screener after screener. Particularly: Fox Searchlight, Sony Pictures Classics, Strategy PR, Block-Korenbrot Public Relations, Marina Bailey (who always makes sure I have all 15 shorts!), Karen Fried and Associates, and Fredell Pogodin & Associates.
A big thanks to Anne Thompson from Indiewire. We have never met, but she somehow manages to save me every year, pointing me in the right direction when I need some PR guidance.
I also want to thank Maren Ade, Martin Zandvliet, Martin Butler, Roger Ross Williams, and Hannes Holm, the incredible directors who took the time to let me interview them for my Awards Daily pieces.
Speaking of Awards Daily, a big thanks for Sasha Stone, Ryan Adams, Marshall Flores and the newest amazing addition Jazz Tangcay! Without Sasha there would be no Awards Wiz.
I also need to thank the people who helped keep me sane. My awesome roommate John. Barry. My parents, who, for the past 3 years have hosted my tiny Oscars party at their house. Just to name a few.
I want to thank Barry Jenkins, Damien Chazelle, Kenneth Lonergan and Pablo Larrain for making four films that stunned me beyond belief. Whatever happens tonight, films I love are certain to win.
I want to thank Melanie Addington for giving me the opportunity to program the LGBTQ section of the Oxford Film Festival. It was right in the midst of the Oscar chaos. And exactly what I needed!
Finally to my readers. I have been writing about the Oscars for over 8 years, and this year I have had several people come up to me and tell me that they love Awards Wiz. That means so much to me.
