2017 Golden Globe Awards, predictions

I pretty much threw this together at the last minute.  I have a feeling that this year the Globes will be a little more predictable than some of my peers expect. At least in the film categories. But who knows!?

Best Drama
“Hacksaw Ridge”
“Hell or High Water”
“Manchester by the Sea”

Plenty of different opinions out there, but I honestly can't imagine anything other than "Moonlight" taking this. It has seemed over the past few years that the Globes have gone the way of the tea leaves.
Best Comedy/Musical
“20th Century Women”
“La La Land”
“Florence Foster Jenkins”
“Sing Street”

If La La Land loses this award I will faint.

Best Film Drama Actor
Casey Affleck, “Manchester by the Sea”Joel Edgerton, “Loving”
Andrew Garfield, “Hacksaw Ridge”
Viggo Mortensen, “Captain Fantastic”
Denzel Washington, “Fences”

As much as I would love to think outside the box here and go with Viggo Mortensen, I am feeling that Casey Affleck is riding Best Actor all the way to the Oscars.
Best Film Drama Actress
Amy Adams, “Arrival”
Jessica Chastain, “Miss Sloane”
Isabelle Huppert, “Elle”
Ruth Negga, “Loving”
Natalie Portman, “Jackie”

There's a lack of consensus with this category, but having seen Natalie Portman in "Jackie," I honestly can't imagine anyone not voting for her. I will predict her till the death!
Best Film Comedy/Musical Actor
Colin Farrell, “The Lobster”
Ryan Gosling, “La La Land”
Hugh Grant, “Florence Foster Jenkins”
Jonah Hill, “War Dogs”
Ryan Reynolds, “Deadpool”

Ryan Gosling should ride the "La La Land" train to the finish line.
Best Film Comedy/Musical Actress
Annette Bening, “20th Century Women”
Lily Collins, “Rules Don’t Apply”
Hailee Steinfeld, “Edge of Seventeen”
Emma Stone, “La La Land”
Meryl Streep, “Florence Foster Jenkins”

Again, I don't quite have the nerve to go outside the box here. If I did, I would say Annette Bening might win. But Emma Stone. I think this will be her last win for Best Actress. From here on in it's Portman.
Best Film Supporting Actor
Mahershala Ali, “Moonlight”
Jeff Bridges, “Hell or High Water”
Simon Helberg, “Florence Foster Jenkins”
Dev Patel, “Lion”
Aaron Taylor Johnson, “Nocturnal Animals”

I have been feeling for a few weeks that Jeff Bridges could win, but I am going to stick with the more obvious. Mahershala Ali.
Best Film Supporting Actress
Viola Davis, “Fences”
Naomie Harris, “Moonlight”
Nicole Kidman, “Lion”
Octavia Spencer, “Hidden Figures”
Michelle Williams, “Manchester by the Sea”

Viola Davis!! That's all there is to say.
Best Film Director
Damien Chazelle, “La La Land”
Tom Ford, “Nocturnal Animals”
Mel Gibson, “Hacksaw Ridge”
Barry Jenkins, “Moonlight”
Kenneth Lonergan, “Manchester by the Sea”

Barry Jenkins might win the Oscar, but I think that Damien Chazelle is the winner here.
Best Screenplay
Damien Chazelle, “La La Land”
Tom Ford, “Nocturnal Animals”
Barry Jenkins, “Moonlight”
Kenneth Lonergan, “Manchester by the Sea”
Taylor Sheridan, “Hell or High Water”

All the screenplays together. I'm going with Kenneth Lonergan.
Best Animated Film
“Kubo and the Two Strings”
“My Life as a Zucchini”

This is a hard one. Partially because I haven't seen a single of these nominees. But "Zootopia" seems the safe bet.
“Toni Erdmann”
Best Foreign Language Film
“The Salesman”
“Toni Erdmann”

I want "Elle" to win this so much. And while I don't think "Toni Erdmann" will win the Oscar. (At least not today) I think the Globes will pick it.
Best Film Score
“Moonlight,” Nicholas Brittell
“La La Land,” Justin Hurwitz
“Arrival,” Jóhann Jóhannsson
“Lion,” Dustin O’Halloran & Hauschka
“Hidden Figures,” Benjamin Wallfisch, Pharrell Williams and Hans Zimmer

Best Film Song
“Can’t Stop the Feeling” from “Trolls”
“City of Stars” from “La La Land”
“Faith” from “Sing”
“Gold” from “Gold”
“How Far I’ll Go” from “Moana”

I love the music from "La La Land." I'm a bit surprised at this choice. I would have chosen "The Audition." But alas...
Best Drama Series
“The Crown” (Netflix)
“Game of Thrones” (HBO)
“Stranger Things” (Netflix)
“This Is Us” (NBC)
“Westworld” (HBO)

This is an interesting category. Normally I would go straight to the newest show. In this case, that would be "The Crown." But I feel that "This Is Us" is the show of the moment.
Best Comedy or Musical Series
“Atlanta” (FX)
“Black-ish” (ABC)
“Mozart in the Jungle” (Amazon)
“Transparent” (Amazon)
“Veep” (HBO)

"Atlanta" is certainly the show to beat!
Best TV Movie or Limited Series
“American Crime” (ABC)
“The Dresser” (Starz)
“The Night Manager” (AMC)
“The Night Of” (HBO)
“The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story” (FX)

I am beyond thrilled that they nominated "American Crime." There is a small chance that they could go with "The Night Of" but surely they will go with "The People v. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story"
Best Actor in a Drama Series
Rami Malek (“Mr. Robot”)
Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”)
Matthew Rhys (“The Americans”)
Liev Schreiber (“Ray Donovan”)
Billy Bob Thornton (“Goliath”)

I'm thinking that the globes will go with Bob Odenkirk. But who knows?
Best Actress in a Drama Series
Caitriona Balfe (“Outlander”)
Claire Foy (“The Crown”)
Keri Russell (“The Americans”)
Winona Ryder (“Stranger Things”)
Evan Rachel Wood (“Westworld”)

It could be Evan Rachel Wood, but I'm hoping beyond hope that they give it to Winona Ryder, whether she deserves it or not.
Best Actor in a Comedy Series
Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”)
Gael Garcia Bernal (“Mozart in the Jungle”)
Donald Glover (“Atlanta”)
Nick Nolte (“Graves”)
Jeffrey Tambor (“Transparent”)

If this were the Emmys I would certainly go with Jeffrey Tambor, but I'm thinking they will either go with Gael Garcia Bernal or Donald Glover.
Best Actress in a Comedy Series
Rachel Bloom (“Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”)
Julia Louis-Dreyfus (“Veep”)
Sarah Jessica Parker (“Divorce”)
Issa Rae (“Insecure”)
Gina Rodriguez (“Jane the Virgin”)
Tracee Ellis Ross (“Black-ish”)

A lot of people are saying that Sarah Jessica Parker is going to win, but I have a feeling it could be Julia Louis-Drewfus. ARGH. Not an easy choice.
Best Actor in a TV Movie or Limited Series
Riz Ahmed (“The Night Of”)
Bryan Cranston (“All the Way”)
Tom Hiddleston (“The Night Manager”)
John Turturro (“The Night Of”)
Courtney B. Vance (“The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”)

I want to take a chance here and go with Riz Ahmed.
Best Actress in a TV Movie or Limited Series
Felicity Huffman (“American Crime”)
Riley Keough (“The Girlfriend Experience”)
Sarah Paulson (“The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”)
Charlotte Rampling (“London Spy”)
Kerry Washington (“Confirmation”)

No chances here. Sarah Paulson is really undeniable in this part.
Best Supporting Actor in a Series, TV Movie or Limited Series
Sterling K. Brown (“The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”)
Hugh Laurie (“The Night Manager”)
John Lithgow (“The Crown”)
Christian Slater (“Mr. Robot”)
John Travolta (“The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”)

Although Sterling K. Brown won the Emmy, I wonder if they might go with John Travolta. Why not?
Best Supporting Actress in a Series, TV Movie or Limited Series
Olivia Colman (“The Night Manager”)
Lena Heady (“Game of Thrones”)
Chrissy Metz (“This Is Us”)
Mandy Moore (“This Is Us”)
Thandie Newton (“Westworld”)

It could be Mandy Moore, but I think it's going to be Chrissy Metz.
