27 Days of Oscar: Day 13, Defining moments and Oscar meaning

I love the moments that are organically created watching all of the Oscar nominated films.

For example, the timing of watching "Shaun the Sheep the movie"...during the run of my play...between watching the nominees for Best Foreign Film, shortly after interviewing the director of "Embrace the Serpent."  I will remember that moment in time.  That moment in my life.  Where the hustle and bustle take a quick breath and the small line between curse and blessing fades...leaving only the movies.  Cinema has defined me life.  And these moments in my life are marked with a bookmark that only a film can encompass.

When the Best Animated Feature category is presented, there will be meaning...for me, at least.  While other people might be waiting for Best Actor or Best Picture.  I will not only remember that special moment, but I will remember watching "Inside Out" with my nephews, the difficulty in getting a copy of getting "Boy and the World" and the elation/sense of accomplishment I felt as it arrived in the mail.  That Sunday morning moment when I could watch some meaningless television or pop in "When Marnie Was There."  And when I drove to the Indie Memphis film festival...watched two movies and ALMOST when home before the screening of "Anomalisa."  And finishing the film and being grateful I stayed.  Those film watching moments make the Oscars for me.

Today is the last day of my show...and I have a bit of a break between closing night and the next rehearsal period.  So, the next two weeks will be Oscar, Oscar, Oscar.

Let's see where I am:

Cinderella
Winter on Fire
45 Years
Spectre
Theeb

Straight Outta Compton
YouthThe
100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed out the Window and Disappeared
The Look of Silence
Trumbo
Boy and the World
Cartel Land
Mustang
The Hunting Ground
Fifty Shades of Grey
The Shorts

First I think I will finish Foreign Film.  I am hoping to interview someone from the team of "Son of Saul" next week and then write about the category.

Mustang
Theeb

Then, I will finish out the acting categories.
Trumbo
45 Years

Then, I think Documentary Feature will be next.
Cartel Land
Winter on Fire
The Look of Silence

Next will be the shorts...probably on Friday or Saturday (I'm off on Friday for the Oxford Film Festival!!)

And then we will go with the one off's.  Original Screenplay, Animated Feature, Costume, Makeup and Hairstyling.

Cinderella
Straight Outta Compton
The 100-Year Old Man Who Climbed out the Window and Disappeared

And then finish out with Original Song
The Hunting Ground
Fifty Shades of Grey

I would love to find time to watch "Beasts of No Nation," "Diary of a Teenage Girl," "The Gift,' "The Age of Adeline" and "Macbeth."  And it may happen.  Who knows.  But TWO WEEKS!!!  With a Best Performances piece as well as a Top 10 Films of the Year, not to mention those pesky predictions.  Deep breath...or I'm going to have a different kind of moment.
