27 Days of Oscar, Day 1: It's a wonderful time for Oscar....
Hello Oscarphiles! It is that time of year again, and I am beyond excited and a little nervous as I look at the list below of all of the films that I need to tackle viewing before February 22nd, which for those of you who do not know is the big night! The 87th Academy Awards! I have been watching and loving the Oscars since 1988. Hard to believe I have been a fan for that long. What used to simply be a night where I watched dreams come true, building and shaping my own dreams eventually became a tool, to discover films I might not have known about otherwise.
When I started this blog I became inspired by AMC's "31 Days of Oscar" and created this series. Why 27 days? Well, when I had the inspiration a few years back to watch at least one movie a day and document it I had 27 days until that year's ceremony. So I have kept the odd number because it worked!
This year I have 28 features to watch as well as the shorts. And in order to make my Top 10 Films list as well as a Top Performances list I would like to watch a few extras as well. Will I be able to get to all of them while searching for a job and doing my daily routine? I sure hope so. I have almost all of the screeners I need as well as Netflix, so that shouldn't really be a problem. I am also hoping to publish a piece about the Documentary Feature and the Foreign Film categories for Awards Daily, my Oscar mothership.
So, how are we going to do this. I think I will start with Picture. Tonight I hope to watch "American Sniper." So much has been said about this film, and it is time for me to see what all the hype is about. Am I pro-war if I like the film? Is the film pro-war? Can I like both "American Sniper" and "Selma?" I look forward to letting you know in the next few days.
Let's have fun over the next 27 days. It will be hard not to get involved in the discussion, but I really hope, as I have said before to let the films speak for themselves.
Later today I hope to publish my Top 10 Television shows, but for now check out the list below.
