27 Days of Oscar, Day 9: a plan (and a bit of bafta)
A couple of days ago, with every intention of watching up to 3 films I simply watched "The Croods" after which I completely lost motivation. That being said I realized yesterday that I need more of a game plan to truly tackle this year's Academy Awards, with just more than 2 weeks to go.
With yesterday's announcement that "Gravity" and "Frozen" swept the Visual Effects Awards I thought I would start there. And that means it is time to watch "The Lone Ranger." Which is perfectly fine....I mean, why not.
But first I am going to a screening of the "Dirty Wars" documentary. I'm only dipping my toe into the doc category this year...as Rick will be taking that one one (I wrote a pretty in depth piece on the docs last year for Awards Daily). Next I think I will look at Makeup...which means it will be time to watch "Bad Grandpa." And then I will go back to the foreign films. With 3 more to go there.
We will have the Baftas to look forward to this weekend, which will give us our last look at where things might be headed. A few years ago this really showed us that "The King's Speech" was going to win. And it is finally time to put our 3 frontrunners in a room together. "Gravity," "12 Years a Slave" and "American Hustle." I think that our winner here will more than likely be our winner at the Oscars. Unless they go with an outsider. Also, there is a little vulnerability in our Best Actor and Actress races. Unfortunately our frontrunner Matthew McConaughey is not nominated, so Leonardo will probably win this one. But if Cate Blanchet loses, there is a chance she will lose the Oscar. Most people don't think this is possible. But I feel something shifting there. (Probably won't happen...and I don't have the guts to predict it quite yet.)
I also wanted to let you all know that I will be posting my Top 10 Scenes of the Year, something I have been working very hard on since the beginning of last year, believe it or not. It includes both television and film and is always very fun to compile. I will probably post it a couple of days before the Oscars, before final predictions. Anyway...check out the trailer for "Dirty Wars" which I will be watching tonight! And you can see my very daunting list yet again.
