DRAG ME (back!!! please) TO HELL

I have to admit. I was not a fan of Army of Darkness. Wait..WAIT...don't stop reading, please. Yes, I know...that is the one that most people worship. But I was always a huge fan of Evil Dead. And I quite loved Evil Dead 2...although it was basically a rehash of the first film, with 10 more dollars for a budget.

And...I am HUGE fan of Spiderman 2. Forget the Batman movies...I think it is the best comic book movie...ever made.

When you factor in the Evil Dead films from the 80's...the brilliance of Spiderman 2...and the atrocity that is Spiderman 3...you can understand the outcome that is the amazing Drag Me To Hell.

There isn't much to say that hasn't already been said about the film. Yes, it is the best scary movie to be released in quite a long time. Raimi has the ability to make us scream and laugh at the same time...with typical horror movie...well...obviousness. You know when every scare is coming. You cover your eyes...you open up your fingers...and you howl.

Justin Long is great in the "girlfriend" role. And Alison Lohman...well, she is perfectly cast. Originally, Ellen Page was supposed to play this role. And thank goodness she didn't follow through. Too much...ahem...intelligence would've hindered the picture. Lohman was quite perfect in her...simpleness.

But the true star of the film is Lorna Raver as Mrs. Ganush. In her opening scene she is spectacularly horrific. And when Lohman and Raver have their first altercation in the parking lot (with Raimi's help, of course) we are treated to one of the best action scenes EVER!

Much more can be said about this picture...but I don't want to give anything away. Especially whether or not the title, actually, says it all.

Enjoy!

27 Days of Oscar, Day 17: Fighting the queer fight and Production Design

Reading that headline makes me laugh a bit. "Fighting the queer fight and Production Design." Not quite the perfect combination...
